Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technology professionals, has an immediate opening for a Sr. Linux (Red Hat) Systems Engineer with a leading e-commerce company in Manhattan.

The Linux Systems Engineer will be responsible for overall design, implementation, and engineering of the Linux system hardware, software, and storage infrastructure in a mission-critical production environment. These systems support a large e-commerce website, operations, delivery logistics, and general business services. Including support for a large-scale, multi-year program overhauling and transforming IT infrastructure into a hybrid environment consisting of modern local servers and storage systems with physical and virtual server instances connected to storage area networks. Candidates should have knowledge in cloud technology and hosted solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

Architect systems infrastructure solutions to deliver business applications and content to customers at low latency and high throughput
Formalize systems engineering, application support, and operation processes and procedures based on industry standards
Resolve system bottlenecks and platform instability
Manage system deployment lifecycle
Engineer and implement fault tolerant, multi-site, distributed computing platform
Develop framework to provide performance baseline and improvement for critical business applications
Strategize to deliver business value by using evolving infrastructure technology: cloud technology (IaaS, Saas, PaaS, et al)
Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing systems security policies and procedures
Collaborate with IST to implement and test systems security controls
Assist with improving and enforcing incident management policies and procedures
Provide third level escalation for operation problems and incidents
Collaborate with peers on vendor and technology product selection process
Perform Linux virtualization implementation, support and upgrades
Work with application development team and internal clients on creating systems requirements, projection and growth
Support enterprise data protection backup/recovery system
Engineering liason between Systems, Application, DBA, QA, Network and other groups
Monitor technology changes, advancements, trends and innovations
Part of on-call support rotation


Qualifications


- VMWare support/experience
- Very strong/experience with Linux (Red hat)
- ECommerce support highly preferred


BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
7-10 years of related systems administration/engineering experience, at least 5 years working in a senior systems administration role
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred
Vmware Certified Professional preferred
Must have experience in operational Sr. Linux administration role supporting mission-critical platforms, both physical and virtualized environments
Hands-on knowledge of systems automation techniques in order to increase systems administration efficiency and support; 3rd part products experience such as Puppet, Bastille a plus
Strong working knowledge of Linux shell and scripting languages such as Perl and/or Bash
Solid understanding of IP network technologies and software tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting
Must be familiar with and willing to implement open source solutions and tools where appropriate
Knowledge of industry standards and framework (ITIL, ISO, COBIT) a plus
